JK with wheels, tyres & flares fitted.

SVA Test now passed, so it is time to move on to suspension, wheels and tyres. One of the first items that I am going to fit is the Cold Air Intake, as shown in the Performance section, as I am interested to see how the performance will change, without altering any other factors. I have also ordered Hypertech Max Energy Power Programmer, as this will recalibrated the speedo for the change in tyre size, as the JK speedo is fully computer controlled, and cannot be recalibrated by changing the speedo drive gears.

The car is now prepared for the SVA test, which is on the Monday 17th March, so as long as I have no problems I will be starting the rest of the modifications very soon, after putting a little mileage on.

I have at long last collected the Wrangler from the shipping agents, about 5 weeks late. There was a mistake made on the export paperwork by the DMV in the State's, then there was a problem at Southampton docks. But I now have the vehicle and have started work on preparing it for the SVA test, that has to be carried out before it can be registered. It looks a little different, as I did not buy the wheels and tyres that were fitted to it when I drove it in the State's I had the stock items fitted, as I intend changing them very soon.

Project Unlimited is going to be based on a new Jeep Wrangler JK 4 door, the idea is to take this very practical vehicle that has true 4 door access with very ample luggage space, that is ideal for family use during the week, but at weekends be extremely capable of taking you to place you have only imaged a family car could go.

Introducing the Jeep Wrangler JK

Jeep Wrangler JK 4 Door With Chrome Pack

As you may have figured out from the photo's above, this Jeep is American spec, so the first job will be preparing the Wrangler to pass the SVA test here in the UK. The main item that will need altering is the lighting, turn signals and rear fog light. I am hoping that I will be able to use UK spec Jeep side repeaters and tail lights, the headlights will also have to be changed, as they do not have side/park lights. Alterations to the wiring will have to be done as well. A rear fog light will have to be fitted and wired.

Once the SVA has been passed, the next item on the list will be a Rubicon Express 3.5" Long Arm Lift Kit, with some 17" wheels (not decided which yet) with 33 x 12.5 x 17 Dick Cepek tyres. After that it will be bumpers, I am going with Fab Fours items. For now I am going to run the 4.10 gearing with 33" tyres, but at a later date I will be gearing lower and fitting lockers. Other items that will receive attention will be under body armour and lighting.

The spec of the above Wrangler is:-

  • Jeep Wrangler Unlimited X 4x4
  • 3.8L V6 SMPI Engine
  • 6-Speed Manual Transmission
  • Command-Trac® Shift-on-the-Fly 4WD System
  • 4-Wheel Disc Anti-lock Brakes
  • Next Generation Dana 44 Rear Axle
  • 4.10 Gears
  • Trac-Lok® Limited Slip Rear Diff
